A weekend wedding gives you more time to connect with the people you love most. Instead of a rushed four-hour reception, you have Friday evening arrivals, a full Saturday celebration, and a leisurely Sunday morning breakfast before everyone heads home. The Texas Hill Country is beautiful year-round, but two seasons stand out for weddings.

Spring (March – May) is wildflower season. Bluebonnets, Indian paintbrush, and Texas mountain laurel bloom across the ranch and along Willow City Loop — one of the most photographed wildflower drives in the state. Temperatures are mild (60s–80s), the light is golden, and the landscape is at its most dramatic. Spring dates book earliest — often 12–18 months in advance.

Fall (September – November) brings cooler temperatures, golden afternoon light, and the rich amber tones of oak trees beginning to turn. The humidity drops, the evenings are comfortable, and the Hill Country takes on a warm, harvest-season glow. Fall is ideal for couples who want that cozy, intimate feeling.

Summer weddings are absolutely possible — and the sunsets are spectacular — but plan for heat. Evening ceremonies (after 6 PM) and shaded spaces make summer celebrations comfortable. Winter weddings offer a quiet, intimate atmosphere with mild temperatures and uncrowded roads.

18 months out: Book your venue. The best Hill Country dates — especially spring weekends — fill up fast. Once your venue is secured, everything else falls into place.

12–15 months out: Book your photographer and videographer. Great photographers in the Hill Country are in high demand, and the ones who know Willow Sky Ranch's light and landscape are worth reserving early.

9–12 months out: Book your caterer, florist, and DJ or band. Send save-the-dates. Begin dress shopping.

6–9 months out: Send formal invitations. Book hair and makeup. Finalize your menu. Plan your honeymoon.

3–6 months out: Confirm all vendors. Schedule trials. Create your day-of timeline. Book guest accommodations.

1–3 months out: Final dress fitting. Get your marriage license (required in Texas — apply at your county clerk's office). Prepare vendor payments and tips.

Week of: Confirm headcount with your caterer. Deliver items to the venue. Rehearsal and rehearsal dinner. Rest.

Ceremony Oaks is our signature outdoor ceremony space — a canopy of ancient live oak trees that creates a natural cathedral. The dappled light through the branches is unlike anything a ballroom can offer.

Wishing Well is an intimate ceremony site perfect for smaller gatherings or elopements. The stone well and surrounding wildflowers make for stunning photographs.

Whispering Oaks is a secluded enchanted forest ceremony site tucked beneath a canopy of ancient live oaks — ideal for smaller, intimate ceremonies and one of the most sought-after photography locations on the entire property. Please note this site requires a short walk from the main venue spaces.

Settler's Cabin is a historic structure that adds rustic charm to any event. It's a favorite backdrop for portraits and a beautiful space for intimate gatherings.

The Outdoor Serving Kitchen makes catering seamless for outdoor receptions. Your caterer will love the setup.

Most couples use a combination of spaces — ceremony in the oaks, cocktail hour on the patio, reception under the stars. Your venue manager will help you design a flow that works for your guest count and vision.

Not every vendor is a great fit for an outdoor ranch wedding. Here's what to look for.

Photographers: Look for someone who has shot outdoor weddings in natural light. The Hill Country's golden hour is extraordinary, but it requires a photographer who knows how to work with it. Ask to see full galleries from outdoor weddings, not just highlight shots.

Caterers: Ranch weddings often require caterers who can work without a commercial kitchen. Ask about their outdoor setup capabilities and whether they've worked at Willow Sky Ranch before. Our preferred caterers know the property well.

DJs and Bands: Sound carries differently outdoors. Make sure your entertainment has experience with outdoor events and the right equipment for open-air spaces.

Florists: Wildflower-inspired arrangements look stunning at Willow Sky Ranch. Local florists who source from Hill Country growers can create arrangements that feel like they grew right here.

We maintain a list of preferred vendors who know and love Willow Sky Ranch. They're not required, but they're a great starting point.

Transportation: Willow City Loop is a scenic two-lane road — beautiful, but not designed for large convoys. Consider arranging shuttle service from Fredericksburg for guests who aren't staying on-site. URidez and Open Range Tours both serve the area.

Accommodations: Fredericksburg has excellent lodging options — boutique hotels, vacation rentals, and bed-and-breakfasts. Book a room block early, especially for spring weekends. Your guests will appreciate having options at different price points.

Weather: Texas weather is unpredictable. Have a backup plan for outdoor ceremonies. A tent or covered space gives you peace of mind without sacrificing the outdoor feel.

Noise ordinance: Willow City is a quiet community. Music must end by the venue's designated time. Plan your timeline accordingly so the celebration wraps up naturally.

Cell service: Signal can be spotty in the Hill Country. Make sure your vendors have a printed timeline and contact sheet — don't rely on everyone being reachable by text.

Insects: Hill Country evenings bring fireflies (magical) and mosquitoes (less magical). Bug spray is your friend. Consider citronella candles for outdoor reception tables.

Wine country: The Texas Hill Country wine trail runs through Fredericksburg. With over 50 wineries within a short drive, a pre-wedding wine tour is a perfect activity for out-of-town guests or a bachelorette group.
