Guest Experience Guide
October in Fredericksburg
Your complete guide to an amazing October experience in the Texas Hill Country — from Oktoberfest to the Food & Wine Festival and everything in between.
Quick Answer
October is one of the best months to visit Fredericksburg. Temperatures drop into the comfortable 60s and 70s, fall foliage begins along Willow City Loop, and the calendar is packed with festivals — Oktoberfest (Oct 2-4), the Mesquite Arts Festival (Oct 9-11), Trade Days (Oct 16-18), and the Food & Wine Festival (Oct 21-24). Add 50+ wineries along Highway 290 and a Main Street full of great restaurants and shops, and you have one of the most memorable weekends in Texas.
If you are attending a wedding at Willow Sky Ranch this October, you are in for a treat. October is arguably the finest month in the Texas Hill Country — the summer heat has broken, the live oaks begin to turn gold along Willow City Loop, and Fredericksburg transforms into a festival destination unlike any other time of year.
We have put together this guide to help you make the most of your time here. Whether you arrive Thursday and stay through Sunday or just come in for the weekend, there is more than enough to fill every hour with something wonderful.
From the owners of Willow Sky Ranch — welcome to our favorite month in the Hill Country.

Fall Foliage on Willow City Loop
Willow Sky Ranch sits directly on the Willow City Loop — a 16-mile scenic drive that is one of the most beautiful roads in Texas. In October, the live oaks begin to turn golden and the sumacs blaze red along the creek beds, creating a fall color display that rivals anything in the American South.
The Loop winds through private ranch land, past granite outcroppings, and along seasonal creeks before connecting back to Highway 16. It is a slow, winding drive meant to be savored — windows down, no rush. Plan 45 minutes to an hour to drive it properly.
Willow City Loop Tips for October
- Drive it in the morning for the best light and fewer cars — golden hour is spectacular
- The Loop runs directly past Willow Sky Ranch — guests can drive it before or after the wedding
- Stop at the granite overlook about halfway through for panoramic Hill Country views
- Cell service is limited on the Loop — download the route before you go
- Speed limit is 30 mph — this is a narrow, winding road through private property; respect the land
The Loop connects to Highway 16 at both ends. From Fredericksburg, head north on Highway 16 toward Llano and turn right onto Willow City Loop Road. The ranch entrance is on your right about 8 miles in.
